FORUM OF FEDERATIONS LAUNCHES, “Empowering Women for Leadership Roles in the MENA Region: Tunisia
On February 1, 2018 The Forum of Federations President, Rupak Chattopadhyay, joined with the Canadian Ambassador to Tunisia, Ambassador Carol McQueen and Tunisian Minister of Women, Family and Childhood, Hon. Neziha Laabidi to launch the Tunisian component of the Canadian-funded project entitled “Empowering Women for Leadership Roles in the MENA Region”.
The project is a multi-year and multi-country effort, which aims to promote women’s leadership and gender inclusive governance in Tunisia, Jordan and Morocco. Special guests at the launch reception hosted by the Canadian Embassy in Tunisia included Nobel Laureate Mme Ouided Bouchamaoui, Lamia Zribi, former Minister of Finance for Tunisia and Faiza el Kéfi, President of the Parliamentarian Academy.
On February 2, 2018, the Forum of Federations President, Rupak Chattopadhyay joined with Hon. Neziha Laabidi – Tunisian Minister of Women, Family and Childhood – to sign the Partnership agreement with the Ministry of Women, Family and Childhood, who serve as the coordinating partner for the Tunisian component of the project.
Prior to the launch and the signing of the Tunisian agreement, the following partners: Faculté de Droit et des Sciences Politiques de Sousse; Aswat Nissa; Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR); Association tunisienne des femmes democrats; Centre de recherches, d’études, de documentation et d’information sur la femme (CREDIF); Ministère de la Femme, de la Famille et de l’Enfance (MFFE); Ligue des électrices tunisiennes (LET), gathered, with the Forum staff in Tunisia, to create synergies and cooperation for the smooth implementation of the project in Tunisia.
In the days and months ahead, partners led by Forum field representatives Leila Haouaoui and Ikram Mechlaoui will start the important work of engaging stakeholders in Tunisia.
