Call for Papers
Federal Governance aims to contribute to a global dialogue on federalism. We aim for a wide audience. Articles should be of interest to a global network of graduate students, researchers, and the attentive public. Articles should be written in a formal but accessible style.
Research Articles/Revised seminar papers (3000-3500 words)
Articles should be condensed and structured in a manner to be accessible to a wide audience. All essay-length contributions should be edited carefully for professional presentation as well as bibliographic accuracy. All bibliographic entries should be consistent and accurate, and should correspond to the Harvard Style. All essays will be re-formatted for electronic publication and should include a short abstract and a bio-sketch.
Book Reviews/ Research Commentary (500 words)
We accept book notes on recent and noteworthy books or previous articles appearing in Federal Governance or other academic journals. Book notes are succinct book reviews, which briefly explain the central theme or argument of a recent book and offer a preliminary analysis or judgment of its theme. Commentary should be measured in tone and aim to create dialogue and new understandings of the topic. This could also allow students to highlight the earliest stages of their graduate research programmes
Review Essay (750-1000)
Review essays on recent debates are also welcome. Federal Governance is especially interested in identifying emerging fields of research in regions or topics that have thus far been under-represented in traditional academic journals. Authors are encouraged to contact the editor to determine if a review essay or book review project is likely to be accepted.
Submission Process
Federal Governance strives to create an open and accessible platform without sacrificing rigor and quality. Submissions will be subject to a double-blind peer review, conducted by an international board of graduate-student Referees and members of the advisory board.
Essays will be judged on the basis of scholarship, quality of research and relevance to the fields of federalism and multi-level governance. Prospective authors are encouraged to contact the editor regarding the suitability of a proposed topic.
In addition, submissions must be sponsored or recommended by an expert in the field. This additional threshold will raise the quality of the publication and enhance the prestige of our journal.
Contributors should be in email contact with the editor prior to submitting articles. Once an article is sent, a confirmation email will be sent back to the contributor. Graduate students have shorter tenure than active scholars. Masters programs can be as short as one year. A top priority is thus to have quick turn-around times between consideration, revisions if necessary, and publication. Once received for consideration by Federal Governance, an essay may not be submitted to another publication. Once an essay is published, copyright remains with Federal Governance and all requests for reprinting should be directed to the Editor.
