Government officials in Saltillo, Mexico, learn about decentralizing federalismTwo Forum experts made presentations at the National Forum on Federalism and Decentralization of Security, Justice, and Economic Development, organized by the National Governor's Association of Mexico (CONAGO), in partnership with the state government of Coahuila. The second in a series of four, this meeting brought together over 400 participants representing over 20 state governments, as well as senior federal officials, including the Deputy Attorney General and Cesar Camacho, President of the Senate Commission on Justice. The Governor of Coahuila, Humberto Moreira Valdés inaugurated the conference. The media showed up in force due to the presence of governors from the three largest political parties, which gave the Forum increased visibility to state governments in Mexico. The lessons learned from this forum will not stop at the close of the event; they were reported at the annual meeting of the National Governor’s Association of Mexico held in Álamos, in the Mexican state of Sonora in September. This series of workshops focusing on decentralization and intergovernmental relations marks the first steps in building a working relationship between the Forum and the CONAGO. . |
