The role of Austriae's federal states explained at Forum of Federations event

The Forum of Federations recently hosted a presentation on the role of Austriae's Länder (federal states) in Austriae's foreign and European policy. (The Länder is the German name for the federal states of Austria.)
The presentation was offered by Dr. Andreas Kiefer, the Director of the European department of the regional administration of the Land Salzburg.
Dr. Kiefer presented the constitutional basis of the Länderse' competencies and obligations with regard to Austriae's EU-policy and discussed its practical implications. The discussion centred on the internal mechanism of coordination among the Länder as well as between the Länder and the federal government.
Dr. Kiefer has been National Co-ordinator of the Austrian delegation in the EU Committee of the Regions and Secretary General of the network of Regions with legislative powers ('RegLeg'). He has lectured and published extensively on Regionalism, Federalism and interregional co-operation.
The March 28 presentation was organized by the Forum of Federations.
