Young professional joins board of Forum
Ms Almendral's main area of research is fiscal federalism. She has published a book on Shared Taxation and Fiscal Responsibility that has been widely referenced in Spain and has written several articles in Spanish and international journals on different aspects of fiscal federalism. She has also participated in a number of the Forum's activities including missions to Iraq and Sri Lanka and also the second International Conference on Federalism, hosted by the Swiss Government and the cantons in 2002 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. She has written articles for Federations magazine. Ms Almendral says she joined the Forum's board in order 'to boost the participation of young professionals and scholars in the activities of the Forum, in order to help create a solid and fruitful network of multinational experts in Federalism.' She is replacing Mr. Michael Zorbas, who was the representative of the Youth Program, which has been succeeded by the Forum's Young Professional program. Ms. Almendral plans to 'learn from this experience and use this knowledge from different countries to better analyze the complicated asymmetrical federalism system in Spain.' Lakshminarayanan, India; Prof. Wolf Linder, Switzerland; Dr. Wolf Okresek, Austria; Prof. Gil Rémillard, Canada; Mr. Roger Wilkins, Australia. Ms. Almendral's appointment is for a three-year term. |

Dr. Violeta Ruiz Almendral has joined the board of the Forum of Federations as the representative for young professionals. Ms Almendral is an Associate Professor of Tax and Finance Law in Madrid at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where she has held various teaching posts since February 1998.
