The Forum runs governance programs in Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.

Ethiopia
Ethiopia became the eighth member of the Forum of Federations in December, 2006. As a young, still-emerging federation, Ethiopia faces special challenges and opportunities.

Forum staff are currently collaborating with Ethiopian academics to create a new Institute of Federalism at the country's premier university, Addis Ababa University.

The Forum is also working actively with the House of Federation (our official Government partner in Ethiopia) and the Ministry of Federal Affairs.

Past events in the Ethiopia program include:

Nigeria
The Forum of Federations has been working with Nigeria since 2000. Forum staff are currently working on a fiscal federalism project with the World Bank.

Future activities may include the exploration of intergovernmental relations in the education sector.

Past events in the Nigeria program include:

South Africa
The Forum's work in South Africa is just beginning. A Global Dialogue international roundtable was held in South Africa in April 2007 as well as a discussions on local governments and metropolitan regions in federations.

The Forum will continue to work closely with South Africa-based individuals and organizations for its programs in Africa and elsewhere.

Sudan

In Sudan, the Forum of Federations works with civil society, academia and government at all levels. These activities are part of a multi-year project that is funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT).

The Forum is providing Sudanese with training and public awareness on federalism in Sudan, as a vital contribution to the implementation of federalism-related aspects of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

In the government sector, the Forum is working at the central government level (Government of National Unity, GNU) as well as with the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) and the state governments.
