AP PHOTO/AMAN SHARMA Diversity drives India’s resurgence Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, in Amritsar. A member of the Congress Party, he is India’s first Sikh Prime Minister. India’s diversity and its history as the birthplace of many religions also gave India three Muslim presidents, as well as many Hindu presidents and one who was a Sikh. India’s system thrives on diversity and pragmatic intergovernmental relations – two themes of the 4th International Conference on Federalism, hosted by the Government of India in New Delhi, November 5–7, 2007. |
