Professor Alan Fenna, Curtin University, Western Australia
With introductory remarks by Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada, Michelle Manson
Australian federalism has been through a decade of turmoil since the global financial crisis as ongoing tensions between the Commonwealth and the States overlap with tensions among the States themselves.
Now that the dust has settled, at least for the meantime, this presentation reviews and analyses those developments, tracing them back to fundamental characteristics of the Australian federal system, intergovernmental relations and relating them to broader questions about the nature of federal government in general.
