Academics from around the world and elected officials and civil servants from Canada participated in an event to celebrate the illustrious career of Prof. Ronald L. Watts.
The event, titled The Federal Idea: a Conference in Honour of Ronald L. Watts, was held in Kingston, Ontario, from Oct. 18-20, 2007. The participants learned about the state of federations and union governments worldwide, as well as how federal countries handle diversity, constitutions, citizenship, decentralization and fiscal federalism. The conference honoured Prof. Emeritus Ronald L. Watts of Queen’s University, one of the world’s leading experts on federalism and a co-founder of the Forum of Federations. The affair was organized by the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations and the International Association of Centers for Federal Studies with support from the Forum of Federations and other organizations.
