Forum President George Anderson (centre) welcomes a delegation of Nigerian senators in April 2008.
On April 2, 2008, the Forum hosted a delegation of Nigerian senators at its Ottawa offices. The delegation was led by Mr. Ike Ekweremadu, Vice-President of the Senate of Nigeria. Discussions with Forum President George Anderson, and other Forum staff covered the Forum’s growing program activities in Nigeria, as well as additional areas of mutual interest. The Nigerian delegates described some major challenges faced in managing their federation, as well as means through which the Forum’s network might provide useful input to the nation’s upcoming constitutional reform. Mr. Anderson emphasized that Nigeria is a very important country for the Forum, given its importance on the African continent and as the first country to sign a Partnership Agreement when the Forum started its internationalization process in 2005. Both parties committed to immediate follow-up on developing areas of collaboration. Various follow-up meetings have since taken place in Abuja.
