The Forum of Federations and the Asia Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Centre for Federalism and Constitutional Reform (CFCR) will hold an intervention on intergovernmental relations in Philippines.
The seminar seeks to highlight important considerations in establishing the structure and role of states and the vital role of IGR relations and IGR institutions in providing a platform for dialogue, strengthening peace and economic development in Philippines, whether in a federal system of government or within its current constitutional and governance arrangements.
The seminar will bring together national and local leaders from across Philippines to discuss the challenges and issues faced by national and local governments in the implementation of the LGC and other reforms and interjurisdictional issues.
Using Philippines expertise and international practice, the seminar will provide expert analysis and examples from international IGR institutions. The intervention will bring together former and senior government officials and include IGR experts from other federal and decentralised countries (Australia, Canada, India, Nepal, Spain and South Africa).
The intervention is intended for members of the Presidents Consultative Committee on amending the 1987 Constitution, national and local level leaders and administrators. The main objective of the seminar will be to provide observations towards strengthening intergovernmental relations in Philippines.
