Forum President George Anderson co-chaired a UN-sponsored workshop on the topic of oil and gas in Iraq’s new federation. The conference was held April 4 to 6 on the Dead Sea in Jordan, sponsored by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and UNDP, the United Nations Development Programme. It brought together international experts with more than 20 high-level Iraqis who are leaders on oil and gas issues. Forum experts Paul Boothe, an economics professor at the University of Alberta, and Roland Priddle, a former chair of Canada’s National Energy Board, made presentations on fiscal regimes for oil and gas and on the regulation of oil and gas. Mr. Anderson spoke on institutional arrangements. The conference also included representatives of the World Bank, the IMF and Iraq Revenue Watch, as well as UN staff. The other co-chair was Nicholas Haysom, the head of the constitutional team for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
