Forum president addresses Nigerian state governors

Forum President George Anderson spoke at the Special Governors’ Retreat in Abuja, Nigeria recently. The retreat, held over three days, brought together the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states, two thirds of whom were elected for the first time this year.

Mr. Anderson spoke to the governors on the last day of the retreat about Nigeria’s fiscal challenges, with comparisons to other federations. The Nigerian Governors’ Forum provides a venue for state governors to share ideas and discuss common themes. During the retreat, which took place from Oct. 26 – Oct. 28, 20 papers were presented and examined at various roundtable sessions. The theme of the retreat was ‘Building the Foundation of a Modern Nigeria.’

The Forum of Federations was instrumental in the inaugural meeting of all Nigeria’s state governors, which saw the creation of the permanent Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
