(L-R) Mr. Mehdi Mejdoub, Forum Consultant, Mr. Bouraoui, in charge with international cooperation at Interior Ministry, Ambassador Sébastien Beaulieu, Mr. Abderrazek Ben Khelifa, Secretary of State for Local Authorities, Mr. Rupak Chattopadhyay, President and CEO, Forum of Federations and Ms. Leila Houaoui, Forum Senior Advisor.
Mr. Rupak Chattopadhyay, President and CEO of the Forum of Federation, just concluded a mission to Tunisia where he met key partners to discuss the work of the Forum of Federations in Tunisia since 2012. The Forum projects in Tunisia have aimed at supporting the constitutional reform and decentralization and at increasing women’s technical capacity to participate effectively in the political process and assume leadership roles.
Mr. Chattopadhyay’s visit included meetings with Ms. Neila Chaabane, Tunisia’s Secretary of State for Women and Family Affairs and with Mr. Abderrazek Ben Khelifa, Secretary of State for Local Authorities. He also met with representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and with Canada’s Ambassador to Tunisia.
The work of the Forum of Federations in Tunisia was particularly welcome in Tunisia as it provided authorities with a broad range of experiences and best practices from countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Brazil, India and Mexico. The visit took place just as Tunisia is launching its High Council of Local Authorities. The new Tunisian constitution provides for decentralization and the establishment of an independent High Council on Local Authorities.
