Forum President George Anderson recently addressed a special theme session at the Fifth World Water Forum (WWF) in Istanbul, Turkey.

The subject of Mr. Anderson’s address was Managing Water in Federations.

The event’s March 17 session, attended by more than 200 participants, was coordinated by Dr. Ben Braga, Director of the National Water Agency of Brazil and a Vice-President of the WWF.

Other speakers gave presentations on the challenges of integrated water resource management, as well as on the particular experiences of Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Spain the United States and the European Union.

For the Forum of Federations, the Istanbul event follows a conference last July on Water in Federal Systems, which was co-sponsored by the Forum and held in Zaragoza, Spain.

A book containing the Spanish edition of papers from the Zaragoza event was presented at the Istanbul WWF by Dr. Antonio Embid, who was the scientific director of the Zaragoza conference.
