The Senate of Mexico, with support from the Forum of Federations, held a workshop on the international relations and fiscal arrangements of state and local governments on March 25, 2010. The workshop took place in the Senate of Mexico.
Eight federal senators participated in the workshop, which drew 30 practitioners from Mexico’s federal, state and local governments.
The Forum arranged for the participation of two experts from Argentina, Ambassador Eduardo Iglesias (retired) from the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI), and Professor Juan Antonio Zapata of the University of Mendoza. The Forum experts reviewed and commented on draft documents prepared by Mexico’s Interior Ministry and met with Senators and other practitioners to discuss current reform proposals under review by the Senate Commissions. They also compared how international relations and fiscal arrangements for subnational governments evolved in Argentina and Mexico.
