Intensive Federalism Training for ethnic leaders in Burma/Myanmar

Training workshop in Ha-Pan, capital of Karen state, from July 27-29, 2015

As part of its federalism capacity building program in Myanmar/Burma, funded by the Government of Canada, the Forum in cooperation with Euro Burma Office and the Karen Unity and Peace Committee, organized a 2.5. day-intensive training workshop in Ha-Pan, capital of Karen state, from July 27-29, 2015.

The more than 50 participants of the training, selected by EBO, were ethnic leaders and senior party members of ethnic parties of Karen state. The workshop was addressed by the chief minister of Karen state, U Zaw Min.

The Training was delivered by Dr Sandeep Shastri, Senior Fellow of the Forum, Dr Francis KW Loh, Professor emeritus, Penang, Malaysia, and Dr Mario Koelling, Gimenez Abad Foundation, Spain.

The two intensive and interactive 2.5 day training session look at issues of managing diversity, function assignments in federations, fiscal federalism, local government, constitutional reform and case studies. The objective the training is to equip beneficiaries with the capacity to meaningful engage in discussions about the future state structure and constitutional reform in Myanmar.

The federalism capacity building program in Myanmar/Burma is funded by the Government of Canada.
