Training workshop in Yangon from August 12-14, 2015
As part of its federalism capacity building program in Myanmar/Burma, funded by the Government of Canada, the Forum in cooperation with the Bayda Institute, organized a 2.5. day-intensive training workshop in Yangon from August 12-14, 2015.
The 70 participants of the training, selected by the Bayda Institute, were all members of the National League for Democracy (NLD), the party headed by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. The NLD is currently Myanmar’s largest opposition party. The workshop was attended by U Win Thein, Aung San Suu Kyi’s senior advisor. Further, participants included members of parliament, candidates for the upcoming national elections and senior party leaders.
The Training was delivered by Felix Knuepling, Forum Head of Programs, Dr Sandeep Shastri, Senior Fellow of the Forum, Dr Francis KW Loh, Professor emeritus, Penang, Malaysia, and Joyce Ababrbanel, consultant.
The two intensive and interactive 2.5 day training session look at issues of managing diversity, function assignments in federations, fiscal federalism, local government, constitutional reform and case studies.
The objective the training is to equip beneficiaries with the capacity to meaningful engage in discussions about the future state structure and constitutional reform in Myanmar
