This roundtable brought together 70 legislators, policy actors and academics from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as Canada and some of its provinces and territories. The roundtable was held at the National Assembly for Wales, from 29-30 November 2001. The Rt. Hon. Rhodri Morgan, First Minister of Wales, and Dr Dyane Adam, Commissioner of Official Languages of Canada, gave the keynote addresses. Participants had a unique opportunity to compare legislative and institutional frameworks, assess policies and programs, and evaluate the impact of language governance initiatives in both federal and devolved systems of government.
