SA Roundtable on Legislative and Executive Governance in Federal Countries

John Dinan, Country Coordinator for the United States, conducted the American Roundtable at Wake Forest University, Winston Salem, NC, for the third theme of the Global Dialogue on Federalism, ‘Legislative and Executive Governance in Federal Countries’. A dozen participants representing federal and state research and practice in legislative, judicial and executive branches discussed questions based on the theme template questions. Some of the most lively discussions centred on the extent and methods of communication between members of state legislatures and members of the national legislature; and how the American system distinguishes between powers that are exercised by the central legislature and powers that are exercised by the state legislatures and how that is respected.
