The Forum25 conference held in Ottawa marked twenty-five years of global collaboration through the Forum of Federations by examining the vital role of federalism in the modern era. The Forum convened global leaders and scholars to have practical discussions on how federalism can be understood as a dynamic toolkit for solving complex problems.
Throughout the sessions, participants explored how multilevel governance can address issues such as the role of cities in climate action, the management and deployment of artificial intelligence, building stability in fragile and divided societies, and intergovernmental fiscal relations. Ultimately, the event reinforced that the federal idea remains a powerful and relevant framework for balancing national unity with local diversity, and for providing a pathway for stable and accountable governance in an increasingly unpredictable world.
