Climate Change, Conflict and Subnational Governance

This project will identify pathways for strengthening inclusive climate change adaptation and mitigation governance, particularly at the sub-national level, with a focus on conflict-affected countries. Through comparative analysis informed by four case studies – Ethiopia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and the Philippines – the project will:

  • Draw lessons on the key themes of climate governance in these settings
  • Provide suggestions for supporting action on the ground in developing inclusive
  • climate action governance

The project recognizes the critical importance of good governance, especially in conflict-affected countries where climate change poses a significant threat and can exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. The project will explore how to integrate climate change considerations into inclusive governance practices at all levels, drawing on the Forum’s unique experience in engaging with a wide range of actors in conflict-affected countries.

This project builds upon the foundational work the Forum has done on climate change.
